The sons fury reveals a bruised heart
By Donald F. Murphy
Altogether a whining account of an ungrateful man. The insights of Bogart's contemporaries are the most telling. The adult perspective they offered to the son were insightful and well considered. Stephen Bogart seemed to accept little responsibility for his own shortcomings, instead attributing any unexamined behavior as his father's legacy to him. This is particularly disappointing because as a recovering addict accepting personal responsibility is one of the pillars of recovery.

Another curious aspect is the depiction of Lauren Bacall. In the final analysis there may be a redemptive air, throughout it seemed as though her viewed her as a negligent and absentee parent. His treatment of her seemed to, quite selfishly, disregard the fact that she was a shattered figure in the real life drama.

Let me not, however, leave others to believe this was not a good book. As a true Bogart fan this book fills the bill.

Good read, but could've been better
By Zoomex
Kudos to Stephen Bogart for striving to write an honest, personal and sometimes touching portrayal of his acting legend father. Obviously, the son was deeply affected by his father's short-lived attentions - and inattention - in the brief time they had together, and posthumously. The book's a quick read, the stories about Bogie are succinct and revealing, and the writing's unpretentious. Still, the material felt scattered and poorly organized, despite the framing device of a reminiscence at the old family home. It also gets a bit tiring to read about Humphrey's drinking habits. Yes, he liked his scotch with lunch at Romanoff's; no need to dwell on this a half-dozen times throughout the book. Still, the book's a worthwhile exercise for anyone seeking to know more about one of the most physically and intellectually ironic icons in movie history.

Very Interesting!
By Kindle Customer
This book is written by Bogart's son, who obtains his facts from his father's friends and mother. This due to his father dying when he was eight. You can tell Bogart's son grew up resenting his parents for various slights and goes into details about his troublesome childhood. I believe finding another biography of Bogart's life by Bacall or a close friend would be more fair and factual. It truly bothers me when people talk bad about the dead, especially children of their parents or adults of their loved ones. The deceased person cannot defend him/herself!
