Defying age, time and space, she’s still dancing in the new millennium. For Vyjayantimala, ‘everything begins and ends with dance’. That’s the raison d’etre of her very existence. Over these decades, her august audience comprised kings and queens, presidents and prime ministers, the high and mighty. Truly a roving cultural ambassador of India, taking its traditional heritage and goodwill to distant lands, she performed at Sarah Bernhard Theatre in Paris for UNESCO, Scala Theatre in London, and Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow in the late 1950s. And she had the unique honour as the first Indian dancer to give a Bharatanatyam recital at the General Assembly of United Nations, to commemorate the 21st Anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights, in 1969, receiving a standing ovation of the think-tanks of over 120 nations. Yet again, she was the first Indian artiste to dance at the International Opera House at Sydney, besides recitals at the Adelaide Festival, Royal Opera Ballet Festival, Stockholm, Holland Festival at Rotterdam, Middle East and Far East.

The acclaim for her performances stemmed from the most rigorous training she’s had under distinguished gurus of the purest classical styles. Her flawless tech�nique and remarkably individual interpretation created a benchmark. With such emotional concentration and spiritual dedication, no way did she compromise in her diligent pursuit of traditional art form, even when there was a sudden shift in her life – from the concert stage to the screen. As the celluloid world drew her into its fold, she shot into fame with her very first film in Tamil, Vazkhai. Within a decade, she emerged as the reigning super star in the mainstream cinema, playing covetous leading roles in Nagin, Madhumati, Devdas, Sadhana, Gunga Jumna and Amrapali. She was commended as a ‘stunning perfectionist’ in realistic portrayals. And her rendition in Sangam, indeed, was the confluence of her creative talent that propelled her to heights of dizzy renown.

She became the ‘southern sensation’ with ‘twinkle toes’, for never had an actress from South made it as a national star, more so, for her considerable legacy to Indian Cinema as an accomplished dancer. It was rare for an actress to be a supple dancer with classical training. An amazing feat, working on two parallel tracks, as critics and connoisseurs applauded her research work to revive the ancient and forgotten temple dance forms, like Nava Sandhi. Never once did her Bharatanatyam swerve from the most scrupulous purity of Tanjore style.

Dancing, acting, golfing, marriage, motherhood…and then came another shift – entering the portals of Parliament – becoming a veritable crusader to champion the cause of the underprivileged. Bonding… to a life that continued to pose challenges to keep performing at every given stage, weathering many a storm, she personifies grace and beauty that is timeless. Classic book!

Wow. This is a treasure for any Bharatanatyam lover. Vyjayantimala Bali is one of the best bharatanatyam dancers in mid-late 1900s and even now. This book's beauty is the rare photographs of VB frm pre arangetram through her arangetrams to film career and post career where she focuses exclusively on dance. The photos are gen and there are several (probably close to 100). The autobiograpical nature is very gripping and pleasure to read. Se ends with a highly philosophical chapter and concludes by saying tongue should sing and limbs should dance.

Overall a fantastic collectible.

Good place to start

This book is a good starting place for somebody wanting to begin learning VBA. It gives enough detail to be useful, but not very deep. Many of the tutorial books expect a certain level of knowledge, this volume could be considered the "first 50 pages" of those other books. Not for the experienced VBA programmer.

Good place to Start!

The "in easy steps" series are usually good introduction books and this one is no exception. This is a great book for anyone who wants to learn the basics of Excel VBA Programming. Just as the title indicates, this book will guide you through the learning process one easy step at a time. The code examples are easy to understand and many are practical enough to use in the real world (I used some of the code to complete a job assignment and my boss was very pleased with the end result). As a result of applying the lessons in this book, I've purchased more advanced books on the subject and have decided to enroll in several programming courses next semester. Great place to start!

Bit unfair for Amazon to ask me to review this since I'm the author!

I've been buying any 2nd hand copies that I can since it long sold out and hence the request.

Well actually - since I'm here , if I may be permitted to provide some sort of review:

(First - apologies for the 5 stars - it was either that or none).

Secondly - This book was only ever intended to get people started. There are lots of excellent VBA books from more established authors about - which are much more comprehensive.

Secondly beware that it was written for only (up to) Excel 2003. If anyone wants an additional couple of paqes (Word) of how to get started with Excel 2007 (and 2010) I wouldn't mind sending them.

Review of Peanut Butter Principles by Eric Franklin

"Peanut Butter Principles" by Eric Franklin is a very insightful and encouraging book. Mr. Franklin touches on some very good points on how to encourage children and others to reach their full potential. In Chapter 16, Mr. Franklin brings up his faith and points out something I, myself have learned, that, like the title of the chapter, "Faith Makes all Things Possible Not Easy", is very true. As the author points out, our journey to reach our full potential and to make our lives a success is not easy, but with hard work and perseverence it is possible. Mr. Franklin speaks about how to build up the child's self esteem when helping them. He mentions that they should think for themselves as opposed to giving the child the answers or completing a task for them. Mr. Franklin tells us the importance of persevering in our endeavors and not giving up so easily.

I agree with "Peanut Butter Principles" by Mr. Eric Franklin. Thank you sir, for a very enlightening book, which I, myself can take into account for my own life. I highly recommend "Peanut Butter Principles" by Eric Franklin for anyone, not just parents, teachers or mentors. It has some very excellent guidelines anyone can put to use in their lives. "Peanut Butter Principles" by Eric Franklin is most definitely 'my cup of tea'!!!

Very practical and insightful!

I just read this book after sending my last child out of the nest. I only wish I could have read it years ago...it would be a great motivator during those tough years. In thinking about my three kids, these are the three princlples that I have seen play out for them:

#10 The difference between a goal and a dream is a deadline.
#12 Talent and intellect does always add up to success. Perseverance does.
#20 Don't worry about what you don't know. Do what you know.

Timeless principles your grandparents taught your parents

Eric Franklin has written a truly useful book for instilling success oriented character traits in your children through 47 Leadership Lessons. In the preface he writes that he grew up 'solidly middle class' and it shows in his lessons. There's nothing here about attachment theory or evolutionary psychology. Instead he has chapters titled Life Is Not Fair. Get Over It, and Your Life Is Not a Rehearsal. My favorite is Everything Happens For A Reason, But Sometimes The Reason Is You're Stupid And You Make Poor Decisions. In five sections he walks readers through principles about self, talent, life lessons, relationships, and good choices. The text is breezy and to the point and Franklin draws widely from his own experiences.

Your grandparents probably took most of these lessons as self evident. You and your parents a little less so. Much of this will be entirely foreign to your children. But just like the new economy and new math we continue to learn that there is nothing new and that there are no short cuts to success and good character. Franklin gives an excellent path for parents and their children.

Hopefully parents will read it to each other as well.

About the Author

Randal D. Day is a Professor in the School of Family Life at Brigham Young University where he received his Ph.D. in Family Sciences. His research and teaching interests focus on family processes, father involvement , and family influence on the emergence of positive virtues such as forgiveness. He has authored or co-authored more than 70 research articles and books. His book publications include Conceptualizing and Measuring Father Involvement with Michael Lamb; Fatherhood: Research, Interventions and Policies and Introduction to Family Processes, Fifth Edition . He is a Fellow of the National Council on Family Relations, Director of the Family Studies Center at Brigham Young University, and past Associate Director of the School of Family Life. Randy is currently the principle investigator for a large scale longitudinal survey of 700 families called the Flourishing Families Project (FFP). To date the FFP has interviewed 687 families for five consecutive years (2007-2011).

A Very Romantic Story!

This is my third book by S K Lessly and I have never been disappointed by any of her stories.

This is Joshua and Summer/Kenya’s story.

The story grabbed my attention from the Prologue and makes you want to keep reading to find out how Kenya got into the darkness in the first place!!

As far as I am concerned Josh is a true Alpha Male and treats his woman like a man should!
I loved the dialogue between the couple and the fact that the story was mainly about them and how they interacted with each other.
The book has action, murder, intrigue, betrayal and family drama all the elements of a great read. One of the most romantic books I have read this year so far. I love romance and this book was full of it!

One of my favourite scenes in the book is when Keyna is telling Josh that she loves him.

Kenya: “I love you Joshua…” he heard her whisper and panic settled in…
Joshua: “Sweets please just hold on for me”.

Love, love this scene!!! To experience the full magnificence of this dialogue between the couple you will have to read the book.

I hated Jack he is such a douche!!!! You will see why if you read the book! He and Paula/Diane deserve each other!!

I would highly recommend this book. I would rate this a 10 star read if there was a 10!!! Definitely a 5 star with outstanding features for sure. I loved it!

So where shall I begin on this story? That most interracial romances are short and have no character development this author right here makes you want to be the woman in the story knowing she is backed at all times by her man knowing she can stand on her own two but knowing she doesn't have too!! That is what makes this a feel good story . Yes it had it's dark moment's but Josh was patient and knew what he wanted didn't play any games and handled his business!! There chemistry was off the charts but he took his time and let her see he was there for her and what she wanted and needed everything and everyone else was secondary and that's how it should be!! The other character's gave this book a full feeling they were interesting but didn't take away from the main character's they enhanced not distracted so I hope Shane & Malcom and Misty get there own!! Buy this book if you want romance, hot sex, sexy character's and true family and friends!!!

Could have been better

You know, this book started out slow but it got interesting. I expected more action from the hero as he is an OPERATIVE, working on and off book for many agencies. This book/Hero never reached its full potential; I mean they beat her near to death and then blew her and the hero up, but the writer never takes us along for the ride when he chases them down. We never get to read about what the Hero actually did; instead the writer goes on about the Hero's family & the Heroines recovery for a whole chapter. Who cares? A page or two explaining his families kindness in hospital and after is fine. I think readers wanted to know what the Hero was doing to capture the bad guys. Just like in my movies, I want to SEE the action, or in this case, READ about the action!!

The only person the hero beats up is that weakling Noah. Twice(at the end of the book he has Noah tied up). But we never read about the Hero taking on the Drug Cartel guys or the CIA people who instigated the entire kidnapping. But the Hero insinuates through out the book how TOUGH he is and how far his reach is and "Diane of CIA better not f***k with him". But the writer never lets the hero get revenge against Diane either. THIS STORY FELL SHORT!!!

Also the ending was rushed and messy. Evidently she had the baby, what was it? The story goes from her water breaking to Josh beating up on wimpy Noah. The whole last chapter and Epilogue was messy/rushed or something. I didn't like the ending.

I downloaded this because I wanted an action packed book with a Hero that isn't afraid to cross the line if he needs to, similar to the hero in her book DESIRED. This was a disappointment. There was no real action. A lot of action was implied, (the Hero out of town on a job), just the Hero's team constantly being outsmarted and having their ass handed to them.

About the Author

Mark Lutz is a leading Python trainer, the author of Python’s earliest and best-selling texts, and a pioneering figure in the Python world.

Mark is the author of the three O’Reilly books: Learning Python, Programming Python, and Python Pocket Reference, all currently in fourth or fifth editions. He has been using and promoting Python since 1992, started writing Python books in 1995, and began teaching Python classes in 1997. As of Spring 2013, Mark has instructed 260 Python training sessions, taught roughly 4,000 students in live classes, and written Python books that have sold 400,000 units and been translated to at least a dozen languages.

Together, his two decades of Python efforts have helped to establish it as one of the most widely used programming languages in the world today. In addition, Mark has been in the software field for 30 years. He holds BS and MS degrees in computer science from the University of Wisconsin where he explored implementations of the Prolog language, and over his career has worked as a professional software developer on compilers, programming tools, scripting applications, and assorted client/server systems.

Worth keeping close at hand

As someone who teaches beginning Pythonistas to learn to program, this updated edition of the Python Pocket Reference is worth keeping close at hand.

The reference covers both Python 3.4 and 2.7, and it highlights changes between the two major releases in a succinct, clear way. Yes, one can find the reference information in the freely available Python docs, but this guide earns its place in my backpack by pulling together practical tips, hints, and common gotchas when using a method or function.

I appreciate the author including a section on the tkinter GUI module and tools. It’s helpful to have the basics in a concise format for the times that I am troubleshooting a user interface for a laboratory program or helping someone create a simple status display for an application.

Though it might not be the most exciting read, the Python Pocket Reference does what it does well – a straightforward, up-to-date resource for Python 3.4 and 2.7. Its hints and common idioms may also save a programmer valuable time debugging common mistakes.

Pretty good, sometimes index lacks

I refer to this frequently as I am learning Python and it usually gives me the answer but sometimes it takes quite a bit of searching and flipping back and forth. So I think the index and/or organization could be a little better. Some examples:

* If you are trying to look up a concept but you don't know Python's word for it, alternate words likely won't get you there.

* Suppose you want to copy an object, or assign the contents of one object to another, and you're trying to find the Python way to do that. The index does not have entries for "copy" or "contents". It does have an entry for "assignment statement" but that will just assign an object's reference to another variable so now you have two variables pointing to the same object. What you're looking for is under "slicing" but how would you find that unless you already knew it?

A few more details / examples wouldn't hurt either although I understand they are trying to keep a "pocket" reference small.

Great book for Python scripters

This book has become a permanent resident in my backpack. I often find myself writing quick python scripts on the go for work. This book has proved immensely valuable when I'm working on a script and don't have network access (if I have internet it's generally faster to google it :). 5/5 would recommend.
