About the Author
Robert Jones did not necessarily start out on this career path. Robert showed promise as an artist as early as age 6 and was pushed, or maybe we should say, encouraged to pursue painting and drawing. He competed and won a scholarship to study at a prestigious art school at age 11. After seven long years of intense art training he wanted more and decided to get more. From there he attended a performing arts high school where he majored in theatre. It is there he first dabbled in makeup, applying painting principles to the face. Growing with three sisters he always had the opportunity to prove he was naturally gifted at working with hair. He was also able to put that talent to use in school performances. Upon graduating, his advisors expressed their belief that he should pursue his natural gifts. From there he attended school and worked to get his license to do hair.After a number of years in a salon, he once again wanted more. With his life motto “just jump and figure out how to make it work later,” he got the opportunity to work with new models at an agency. From there one thing lead to another and the rest is history. Now with more than 20 something years in the beauty industry he has traveled the world working with so many amazing people.His work has appeared in countless magazines such as Allure, Vogue, Marie Claire, InStyle, Shape, Life and Style, Glamour, Brides Magazine, and Elle. Same As The Last Book

The Robert Jones books are basically the same, with the model pictures rearranged. So, if you like one of his books and purchase it, rest assured it's almost identical to all his other ones. Now having pointed that out, I do like RJ's makeup style. The beautiful results from his application techniques are wonderful for special occasions and events. You can dial down some of the techniques for everyday wear. Overall, I liked the book, and since great techniques rarely expire, I understand why the RJ books are almost identical; just wish I'd known that before purchasing more than one...because one is all that's needed.

I bought this book sight unseen .. and I'm glad I did!

I bought this book sight unseen from Amazon. I was nervous. I had gotten his Wedding makeup book out of the library and was not impressed with how light it was on content. I had read some bad reviews. And I've previously purchased books from Amazon sight unseen and been very disappointed. However I decided to listen to the good reviews on Amazon and I am glad I did.

This really is one of the best books on makeup I have seen. The only other book that has impressed me is Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual and I think that is another must have.

While his other Wedding book lacked content, this has heaps of it. I love how he describes eye shapes, face shapes, contouring etc. I love that his makeup is natural but beautiful. I have read other books like Rae Morris and although the theory side of her book is good, I just don't want to duplicate any of the eye makeup styles that she shows - it's too 'out there' and for fashion. While Robert Jones book has great makeup for everyday, glamour or bridal.

Some reviewers had complained about the badly over photoshopped images. I didn't feel that they were that bad, yes they had some retouching but it wasn't so bad that it looked like they were mannequins and it didn't turn me off. The photography in this book is just beautiful.

Some of the things that would have improved this book is if he had added the 4 styles of eye makeup he shows in his wedding book (it was the only worthwhile 4 pages in that book). And if he mentioned brands, or if he could sell his own brand of makeup so that we could exactly duplicate the looks in his book.

If you are going to buy one Robert Jones book then buy this one. From other reviews it seems that he rehashes a lot of content so as much as I enjoyed this one, I wouldn't buy any others.

great info and pic on the book

i really enjoyed this book...he does not promote any line over another. there are great pictures of all sorts of women. i appreciated the diversity that was present that you don't get i a lot of makeup books. there's diversity in ethnicity, age, weight (there are some pics of heavier women), etc. i enjoyed learning about why you do or don't do certain things based on your features. the final products are women that are still beautiful but not fake. they don't look like they have a ton of makeup on. i definitely think i could recreate some of the looks in this book. if you want to learn more about applying makeup beautifully then add this to your collection!

Interesting but a bit too ambitious and potentially misleading

Cressie and Wikle's book is one of the first to address space time models from a statistical point a view and using many of the latest statistical models (the soon to be updated 2003 book Hierarchical Modeling and Analysis for Spatial Data also covered the topic). Hierarchical space time models, Dynamical linear models, incorporating scientific knowledge into your statistical model, and handling massive data by using Fixed Rank Kriging are some of the topics covered. However, there are many intricacies that need to be addressed when modelling spatial data or temporal data. So writing a book covering data using both indices is no easy task. The task to write a book on spatio-temporal models only becomes harder when the goal is to cover the topic from a Bayesian point of view (a field of analysis with its own intricacies that need to be addressed). I believe the authors did a good job in presenting some of the latest space-time models proposed in research. However, there are big issues that are not covered in the book.
- The importance of convergence diagnostics for Bayesian models must be emphasized one way or another when discussing these types of methods. The book pretty much does not touch on convergence at all.
- Research has shown that Matern covariance parameters such as the smoothing parameter and the range, cannot be consistently estimated. This may lead to convergence problems when using MCMC techniques to extract characteristics from the posteriors of these parameters of interest (I found out about this the hard way as a grad student). As a result, at best, only partially reliable inference from your Bayesian analysis may be obtained, a disappointing fact given how computationally intensive Bayesian methods are for space-time models. Considering the major issue, space-time Bayesian models can hardly be called state of the art (as tagged several times in the book). Sadly, this convergence issue is not mentioned at all in the book which would lead to frustration for those constructing these models to try to understand a process of interest.
- Kriging is referred to as the Best Linear Unbiased Predictor. In theory this is true, but this is assuming the spatial covariance parameters are known, which is not really the case in practice. Although this often does not affect much the results if the Gaussian distribution assumption holds, it may drastically affect prediction variances for non-Normal distributions. Cressie has done work on the subject. It appears this issue is not discussed in the book though and if so, it should be clearly emphasized.
- Fixed Rank Kriging (FRK) is referred to as a best linear unbiased predictor. Is it not! In fact, since in practice kriging is often implemented by plugging in estimated parameters into the equations (making the the resulting estimated best linear unbiased predictor an approximation), FRK is truly an approximation of an approximation of the best linear unbiased predictor.
The book proposes its methods as a way to conduct science the way it ought to be: in a critical way, transparent, reproducible and in an objective manner. But the points brought up above makes the book a bit disappointing since it is not critical about the methods that are proposed, which although useful, are certainly not perfect. If there is a new edition in the future, I suggest the authors cover some important material left out and also address some challenges faced when implementing these methods.

Very comprehensive and clear coverage of formal mathematical spatiotemporal statistics

This is a massive, and authoritative treatise on spatio-temporal statistics. It focuses on formal mathematical treatments, and the maths can be intense, but if you really want to understand the theoretical underpinnings, and the tradeoffs between different approaches, this is a great book.

I really like the attention to detail and couching everything in terms a hierarchy of models: Data (the connection between your actual measured values and the underlying "real" quantities), Process (the connection between the "real" quantities and the processes that create them), and Parameters (the parameters that characterize the process; the parameter model is intimately related to Bayesian priors). Cressie and Wikle's clarity about the distinctions between these different levels in the hierarchy really help me to clearly understand things that are blurred in other treatments.

The authors take a largely Bayesian approach to modeling and analysis and present it clearly and compellingly. If you're serious about working with spatiotemporal data, this book belongs right next to Box and Jenkins on your bookshelf.

good but anticipate the next edition

This book contains some interesting topics like Kriging method and Kalman filtering. These two topics currently are used in Meteorological operation units, but not so many Meteorologists are familiar with. The authors combining the differential equations and probability models are very good try especially using different typing colors for different models; e.g. blue for process, green for data, red for posterior. However, the derivations of the equations are not so clear. The authors neither gave more details about the equations nor introduced the background motivations; for example, not introduce Kalman filtering's covariance update form from where. After all, this is a book not a journal papers. Anyway, I anticipate the next edition and hope the authors can discuss these things more.
On the other hand, not about the contents of the book, the printing quality of the book is not good. It seems just using low-end and low-resolution laser printer to print this book. The words are blurred, and probably one droplet water can make the words faint. Also, the layout is poor like the lectures in class. I totally agree with one previous reviewer saying the bad printing quality of this book.

• Uses a single case study in several chapters of the book to illustrate the main steps of the development process of the actuators.

Fascinating History of "More Than the Hospital"

I received this book as a gift (Thanks Ditty!!) and thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It is an interesting history of not only the children's hospital but also of the Junior League and the Shriners. The descriptions of medical care of children with polio was fascinating. How thankful I am that it was eradicated before my day (and my children's!). Mrs. DuBois's writing style is very easy to read with just the right amount of humnor. Even if you are more a fan of fiction you will enjoy this non-fiction book.

Fun Frolic through a coloring book filled with cute nature designs – printed on both sides of non-perforated page

[[VIDEOID:ab8b66c7dc6f44b64b4924fdfa54c6e5]]This is a super cute book with lots of fun and pretty coloring designs by the designers of Toc De Groc. There are beautiful flowers and gardens throughout the book. There are also a lot of animals in the book (cats, birds, elephants, owls, peacock, and more) but the focus is on a cute little kitty who appears in the most unusual of places – it is almost a treasure hunt for where is the kitty. There are a few pages where the cat doesn't appear. While there are some issues with the way the book has been published, I really like this book and will buy a second copy, if need be, in order to color all the pages I would like to do with the types of materials I choose.

The book is printed on both sides of non-perforated heavyweight and really good grade white paper. There are 100 pages of coloring designs with most of the designs fitting on one page. There are 12 designs that span across two pages and those designs do merge into the binding somewhat. About half of these designs line up really well on my copy while the others are slightly misaligned. The binding is glued rather than sewn, so removing these few pages without losing some of the design will be difficult. I will be keeping my designs in the book as the two page designs are just so pretty, I don't want to ruin them.

The book has a removable dustcover and you can color on the outside of it. The publisher missed some opportunities by not printing a design on the inside of the dustcover and by making the actual cover too glossy to color on.

Most of my markers bled through or left a shadow on the backside. The exceptions were Staedler triplus fineliners and Tombow dual brush markers but only when I used the brush end. When I used the marker end of the Tombow, it leached ink right through. While I tested with bright and dark colors, you might want to check with your own markers to be sure that they work well. My gel pens did not leak. They did, however, take a much longer drying time. This is something I have noticed with higher grade paper – the gel ink sits on the surface and needs extra drying time rather than being soaked in and through the paper. My coloring pencils worked fantastic on this beautiful paper.

There are certainly a few things I could have wished for in printing of this book (one sided printing, perforated paper) but on the whole, it is just a lovely book to color in. I love the appearance of the little kitties and the designs are just so much fun to color.

Exceptional!

This is one of my favorite coloring books so far and I have quite a collection. The paper is super nice but you need to know the images are double sided and not perforated. The illustrations are amazing and varied. I recommend it!

One of my favorites!

In a market glutted with mandalas and secret gardens this book is a refreshing change with whimsical drawings that are just original enough to stand above all the rest. I like the large format and the paper is thick and nice to work with. I use markers, and there is minimal marker bleed thru. The illustrators must love cats because there are cats that pop up throughout (some hidden; others not) and that makes it fun as well. It's got a bit of a funky, hippy touch to it, and I love that.

About the Author
John Algeo is Professor Emeritus of English at the University of Georgia. He is past president of the American Dialect Society, the Dictionary Society of North America, and the American Name Society. He was an associate editor of the OXFORD COMPANION TO THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE and editor of Volume 6 of the CAMBRIDGE HISTORY OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE: ENGLISH IN NORTH AMERICA. I've always liked Caroline Cooney

I've always liked Caroline Cooney. This book was really good. The time travel is fun. Cooney goes into detail about each year the story is set. I can see the characters and the settings. I can see the world as they see it. It brought out emotion as these characters struggle. The modern day father will really tick you off and he deserves it.

This not a horrible book!

I recently read the scathing review of this book posted in February. I think from an adult perspective one can see the cliches and flaws, but this is meant for a twelve year old and older. I honestly enjoyed the storyline and yes, it would have been great if they delved deeper into the characters, plot, etc. but again this is a young adult novel. I liked the premise, the speaking style, and most of all I was a fan when the first book came out in 1995. I was enamored with the story at the time and am very excited to read all of the books in their succession. I had to wait years for the story to continue! So, for those fans of time travel, young adult fiction, and love/romance stories will enjoy this. I can guarantee it.

Excellent Substitute For Mr Miyagi

My company recently transferred me from Newark, NJ to Reseda, CA. Since I was only a yellow belt in Six Sigma the other guys in my office kept beating me up. I needed help, but with Pat Morita dead I was forced to find an alternative. After reading this excellent book by I was able to beat out Johnny Lawrence for a big promotion. I have my eyes on the Okinowa office next.

Comprehensive.

I think this is a great but easy to comprehend book guide in making an app development or programming. It has used simple words, considering the complex topic, and it made me understand the basic foundations of App programming more. I know I still have a long way to go in making my own app, but with this book, at least I know where to start.

Great guide for beginners who are into developing mobile application
